Un-Su Kim’s The Plotters is a literary, noir thriller centred on a group of elite assassins, their associates and employers Jane Harper’s The Lost Man provided mystery and family drama in the unforgiving landscape of outback Queensland. Dervla McTiernan’ Irish-set debut The Ruin was a procedural thriller dealing with the impacts of historical abuse of children. Japanese crime master Keigo Higashino’s Newcomer is as much about Tokyo and its people as it is about solving a murder. Redemption Point, the second book in Candice Fox’s Conkaffey and Pharrell series is just as good as the first.
